Since I wanted to get to LA a day to position for my business class flight to Bangkok via Hong Kong on Hong Kong AIrlines on time I needed a place to stay overnight. I decided to stay at an AirBnB since I just needed a place to crash my head near the airport.
Since this was my first AirBnB stay I wanted to make sure it would go as smoothly as possible and only choose from a list of superhosts with a lot of positive ratings.
I decided on The Dakota House because it’s an entire property to myself, tons of positive ratings from a super host, location to LAX, and the price.
After all my discounts were applied it was about $85 for my stay. For California I’m happy with that price, especially once I saw the location.
Communication & Check In
My host was Dana, and she was great. I had an instant confirmation once I booked my hotel and she let me know she was excited to have me.
If I ever had a question for Dana she would contact me within 10 minutes of messaging her.
A couple of days before arriving she sent a message with the property amenities and how to access the grounds.
The property itself is on a hilly road next to other homes and apartments. The area felt quite safe and quiet. Signage with the address was poor, but I could tell where the property was located because of the neighbors and the private access door in the backyard.
If you do arrive before check-in or need some extra storage there is a “locker box” you can put items in at your own risk with a combination.
Property & Amenities
The property itself is a fully renovated garage at the end of the driveway. There is a big fence with a number keypad to get into the property and the house.
When you enter the number to get into the “front yard” there is a fire pit with wood, bicycles, chairs, and a table with lights.
Once you get to the door of the house you have to put in a separate combination into the keypad then turn the deadbolt.
Entering the property you notice how big and airy it is with the huge vaulted ceilings. To left is a couch and table with the A/C controls.
Strait ahead is the bathroom and shower.
To the immediate right is a small breakfast table with a welcome letter and a snack basket.
To the 1 o’clock is the king sized bed, a closet, and the “kitchen” area.
You really feel like you’re away from the hustle and bustle of LA at this property.
To be honest you probably never have to leave. Dana does such a great job by providing all the amenities one would ever need. Even more than many hotels.
There were snacks, drinks. Toiletries, board games, candy, chargers, massage devices, netflix, blankets, towels, etc. It made staying at this property so easy.
The only downside I can have constructive criticism on is the A/C. I wish it was on before I arrived to cool down the area. It took about 5 hours to cool down the room to where you actually felt the A/C, but the overhead fan did help in the meantime.
I was only at the property for 6 hours. 2 to unload and relax before going out, then 4 to “sleep” and shower before my flight.
At the End of the Day
Dana’s Dakota House is such a great place, I could not recommend it more if you prefer the area or need to be close to LAX.
There as an In-n-Out right down the street less than 5 minutes, so thumbs up for that.
The Dakota house provides a tranquil and well stocked property that is close to LAX while providing great value for money. The host Dana makes it super stress free and you don’t really need a hotel when you consider everything that is offered here.
